LeBron James Named To NBA All-Defensive Second Team

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – LeBron James has been named to the 2013-14 NBA All-Defensive Second Team, the league announced today.  James is widely regarded as one of the top defensive players in the NBA and he has the credentials to back that up.  LeBron has now earned NBA All-Defensive honors six times during his career, all in the last six seasons, though this is the first time that he did not get First Team honors.

During his four seasons with Miami, James has been selected to the NBA All-Defensive team each season which stands as a franchise record.

Rounding out the rest of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team is Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverly, Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler, San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard and Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert.  As for the NBA All-Defensive First Team, those receiving honors are Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors guard/forward Andre Iguodala, Indiana Pacers forward Paul George, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka and Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah.

LeBron led the Heat in steals (121), total rebounds (533), defensive rebounds (452) and finished third on the team with 81 offensive rebounds.  His steal total was good for 14th in the NBA and his steals per game (1.57) ranked 18th in the league.

As for the NBA All-Defensive voting, LeBron collected 134 total points.  He received 57 First Team votes, tying him for fourth-most in the NBA, and an additional 20 Second Team votes.  Players were awarded two points for a First Team vote and one point for a second team vote.  The voting panel is comprised of 123 writers and broadcasters.
