LeBron: "I'm Happy Right Now Being In Miami"
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat fans heard something from superstar LeBron James that was likely music to their ears during an interview on ABC's Good Morning America.
"I'm happy right now being in Miami, obviously winning two championships in a row. Hopefully everything works out," James said about his upcoming opt-out clause with the team.
"But when that time comes upon us, I'll be able to tackle that (free agency)," James continued. "But happiness and life and what you do makes it easier to show up every day."
James has the ability to opt-out of his current contract with the Heat next summer and become an unrestricted free agent. However, unlike in 2010, James will be coming off at least three NBA Finals appearances and at least two championships with the Heat.
In addition, the Heat will still have team president Pat Riley to assemble another winning team around James under the new salary cap structure in the NBA.
James isn't the only Heat player who can opt-out as Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh also have the ability to leave Miami as unrestricted free agents after the upcoming season. Technically, the Heat have just a couple of players under contract for the 2014 season due to opt-outs, opt-outs, and team options.
LeBron told GMA that he feels like he has maybe 10 more seasons to play in the NBA and called being a pro basketball player, "the longest shortest job career that you have."
