Lawyers Arguing Over Records In Zimmerman Case
ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – Friday could turn out to be a big day in the case of George Zimmerman, who is accused of murdering Trayvon Martin earlier this year.
Lawyers are expected to argue Friday over whether to allow subpoenas for Martin's social media and school records to move ahead, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. At the same time, Martin's parents are asking for Zimmerman's medical records to be released.
Zimmerman, 29, told investigators he's on several medications to deal with attention deficit disorder, according to the Herald, but prosecutors claimed to have only seen part of Zimmerman's medical records.
According to medical records previously released, Zimmerman was taking Adderall, used to treat attention deficit disorder, Restoril, for insomnia, and other medications.
Prosecutors want the records to see if Zimmerman had been treated for injuries to his head or nose prior to the night of the shooting and if he sought any follow-up care, according to the Herald.
Martin's school records showed he was suspended from school the week he was in Central Florida staying at his father's girlfriend's house when he was killed, according to the Herald.
The social media records could be more difficult for the defense to attain. A lawyer for Facebook said the company would object to releasing Trayvon's social media records, the Herald reported.
