Lauren's List: Tips To Curb Your Candy Consumption

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It's Halloween, so the temptation to eat all the candy in sight is stronger today than any other day of the year.

Either you've purchased bags of candy to give out to Trick-or-Treaters, or you're taking your kids out tonight to get some candy of their own.

How do you resist the pull of all those sweet treats?

Today's Lauren's List has a few ideas that may help you curb your Halloween candy consumption.

Limit The Number Of Homes You Visit
This seems simple enough. If you don't want your kid to get too much candy, don't go to too many houses. Tell them early on that you'll only visit 10 or 15 homes, or maybe limit it to a two block radius from your house. When you get back home, have some themed activities planned so they won't miss the fact that they're not out trick-or treating.

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind
As soon as you get home, sort the candy with your kids and then put any extras in a place where you won't see them often. For some, that's on the top shelf of a cabinet, for others, it's in their car so they can take it to work to leave in the breakroom. For me, it would probably have to go in the trash or I might eat it anyway. Oops!

Purchase Candy You Don't Like
This tip applies to people who will be staying home to hand out candy. Get the candy you don't like, so you're not tempted to snack while waiting for that next knock at the door. My house will have plenty of Tootsie Rolls and candy corn. Just sayin'!

Do The "Switch Witch"
I found this tip in the comments section of an online article and I fell in love! Tell your kids if they leave the bulk of their candy out the night of Halloween, the "switch witch" will visit and swap the candy for a nice toy! It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive, but just something to distract from the fact that the candy will be gone.

How do you keep yourself from eating all the candy on Halloween? How do you keep your kids from eating it?
