Lauderhill Officer Shot Pit Bull To Stop Attack On Woman
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Lauderhill police officer shot a pit bull that was attacking a woman.
According to the police, an officer in the area of the 5400 block of NW 18th Court saw the dog attacking the woman who was trying to protect her own small dog.
"The officer was in this particular area, actually in this plaza, conducting a normal routine foot patrol when he heard noises and observed a dog, a pit bull, attacking a female," said police Lt. Mike Santiago.
The officer sprang into action and jumped over a fence.
"He went over and engaged the pit bull that was actively attacking the female by firing his weapon," said Santiago.
Neighbors were unsettled by the sound of gunfire.
"When I woke up this morning, I just heard shots. I didn't see anything, I just heard a lot of shots, heard people running," said Demricle Hanor.
The wounded pit bull ran to a nearby house.
"The female was transported to a local hospital for treatment because she suffered various puncture wounds to her lower extremities," said Santiago.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital, no word on the extent of its injuries.
