Lauderdale Cops Warn Of Possible Web Site Fraud

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department put out a warning Wednesday regarding a suspected Internet scam.

The phony website, www.findsportsnow.com, reportedly offers registration for some of the city's Parks and Recreation activities and classes.

Users are told to pick the classes they want to attend and then are directed to another webpage that tells them to put in their personal information as well as credit card numbers.

Investigators began looking into the case when community members complained to the city's Parks and Recreation Department about not being contacted back after registering for classes online.

The victims told the department that they had signed up for classes, paid for them and never received follow-up information after that.

Detectives learned that the person responsible for the fraudulent website may have swiped people's personal and financial information.

The department encourages anyone who may have used this website to register for an activity or class to contact Detective Michael Berndt at 954-828-5513.

If you are interested in any classes or activities offered by the City of Ft. Lauderdale's Parks and Recreation Department, visit www.fortlauderdale.gov.
