Lauderdale Best Buy Burglaries May Be Linked To Others
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The theft of more than $100,000 in merchandise from two best Buy Mobile store burglaries in Ft. Lauderdale may linked to several other retail thefts in the state.
The first burglary occurred April 22nd at the Best Buy Mobile store at 2350 North Federal Highway. Police said the thieves gained entry in the early morning hours by cutting a hole through the roof. Once inside, they forced their way in the display cases and stole approximately $30,000 worth of electronic devices.
The second burglary happened July 3rd around 5 a.m. at the Best Buy Mobile store at 1489 Southeast 17th Street.
"The suspects were able to break through a shared wall between the neighboring business and the Best Buy Mobile store," said police spokeswoman Deanna Greenlaw.
After crawling through the hole, store surveillance captured them stealing about $90,000 from the store's display cases.
"It's just a variety, anything they can grab in the time they are in that location, anything they can get their hands on is what they are taking," said Greenlaw. "As far as where they are taking these items and if they are selling them, or if they are shipping them somewhere, we don't have that information."
Fort Lauderdale police property crimes detectives believe these burglaries are linked to similar incident in Largo.
Detectives from both cities have asked for the public's help in identifying those responsible. They can call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
