Late Game Interception Seals Miami Win, 22-14
CINCINNATI (CBS4) - A late game drive by the Bengals foiled when a Carson Palmer pass intended for Terrell Owens was picked off by Sean Smith and returned for 18 yards. The Bengals could not recover from the pick, and it cost them the game, as the Dolphins won 22-14.
If it were not for kicker Dan Carpenter, the Dolphins wouldn't have a single point on the board in the first half. As in last week's loss against the Steelers, Carpenter is proving to be the Dolphins' big point generator, with one 38 yard field goal in the first quarter, and three in the second, including a 54 yard bomb with no time on the clock to put the 'Fins within 2 of the Bengals.
The Dolphins simply could not find the end zone early, but the Bengals didn't have that problem.
Midway through the first quarter, Terrell Owens carried a 7 yard pass from Carson Palmer into the end zone for Cincinnati's first 7 points, recovering a bobbled effort for a Miami interception.
Owens caught only 3 passes in the first half, but 2 were for TD's.
With 2:45 in the second quarter, he connected with Palmer for a 37 yard pass, setting up the 14-12 halftime score.
Carpenter was back again in in the 3rd quarter, giving the 'Fins their first lead o the game, just a single point.
A 6 play, 98 yard drive that took the 'Fins from one end of the field to the other set Williams up for his touch down run with just over 11 minutes left in the 3rd, giving the 'Fins their first touchdown of the game.
