No Bond For Rapper Kodak Black, Jailed Again On Multiple Charges

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A mugshot may be the last image you see of popular rapper Kodak Black for a while after he was arrested in Broward County on a slew of charges.
The 20-year-old rapper, from Pembroke Pines, is being held without bond at the Broward County jail on seven counts, including grand theft of a firearm, two charges of possession of a weapon by a Florida Delinquent, marijuana possession, child neglect without great bodily harm and two probation violation charges.
Kodak Black's real name is Dieuson Octave. Since Octave was already on probation when he was arrested, Broward Judge Joel Lazarus ordered him to remain in jail.
He was booked into jail on Thursday night stemming from an incident Saturday, January 13th in which associates of his were reportedly seen in an Instagram post using marijuana and waving a gun around recklessly in front of a child.
Also due to the fact he was on probation, he was forbidden from having narcotics or firearms in his home. BSO says it happened inside his home in the upscale Grand Palms community just West of I-75 and off Pines Boulevard.
However, when BSO detectives issued a search warrant, they found a loaded Glock in his safe, and a 9mm Beretta. The Beretta was reported stolen from Tamarac, according to the police report.
BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "This individual violated his probation before and was given a second chance and he did not take that seriously."
"I could be standing in front of you today telling you a very different story if that young child had gotten ahold of that loaded gun. That causes concern to just for our own agency but for any detectives who see something like that. Thank goodness they were able to investigate and make an arrest and the child is safe."
The report also states there was marijuana found in the house.
Coleman-Wright was not able to say how BSO detectives discovered the Instagram post and was not allowed by law to say if the child was related in any way to Octave. She did note, "The video that lead detectives to Octave's home is very disturbing when saw the drug use and when you saw the drugs being used right in front of the child. Not only are the individuals rolling the marijuana cigarette but they are blowing smoke right in front of the child's face. Clearly it is not a situation we like to see and they were not using good judgement."
Octave's attorney Brad Cohen plans to fight the charges.
"I've been working with Mr. Octave for the last six months and he has been making great strides. This is of course a setback that we will handle and raise defense issues," said Cohen.
BSO also arrested a man who is reported to be Octave's brother: 26-year-old Masnick Sainmelus. He faces a series of charges for possessing drugs illegally.
The rapper has a long history of legal problems.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in a hotel room in Florence, S.C. after a concert in February 2016. That case is still ongoing.
He was jailed in Broward County in June 2017 for violating house arrest, stemming from a May 2016 arrest for armed robbery, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. He was released from jail after serving 97 days of a 364-day sentence after completing a voluntary life skills course.
