Keys Man Who Called 911 Arrested For Drugs
STOCK ISLAND (CBSMiami) – A Key West man who called 911 three times on Sunday was arrested after deputies allegedly found him with drugs.
Around 1:30 a.m. dispatchers received three calls from a man who said he was at Cross Street and 6th Avenue, complaining of chest pains; he hung up abruptly on each call. When dispatchers tried to call back, there was no answer.
Deputies were sent and they found 51-year-old Thomas Ecker at the address given by the caller. When they approached him, the sheriff's office said Ecker threw something into the grass. The deputies picked it up and found it was a plastic baggy with cocaine in it. The sheriff's office said a search of Ecker turned up marijuana in his pocket, along with cigarette rolling papers.
When asked if he called 911, Ecker denied it. When asked if he needed medical attention, Ecker reportedly told the deputies no.
When they called the number back, however, Ecker's cell phone rang.
Ecker was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia and misuse of 911. He was taken to jail where he's being held without bond.
