Keys Drivers Warned Of Mating Deer
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – Drivers in the Florida Keys are being warned about Key deer in 'heat'.
Wildlife officials said its rutting season for the deer and the males are particularly aggressive as look for challengers to fight and for females to mate with. That often leaves the males unaware of their surroundings and they sometimes walk right in front of cars.
Drivers in the lower Keys are being urged to pay attention while they're behind the wheel and observe speed limits.
The rutting season lasts well into November. Pedestrians should also stay away from the deer during this period because the males are extremely aggressive and can kick people.
