Key West Soccer Team Denied Trip To Cuba
KEY WEST (CBS4) - The Key West Strikers have struck out in their attempt to attend a soccer tournament in Cuba.
The team, made up of boys 11-13 years old, had sought permission to travel to Havana where they were invited to play next month as part of the Cuban National School Sports Games.
Their petition, however, was denied by the Treasury Department.
According to U.S. officials, their petition included excessive time outside the confines of the actual competition which is a breach of U.S. policy. The team has appealed but may be out of luck anyway since that process takes about a month.
