MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Authorities have arrested a Kendall man after they reportedly found pipe bomb components at his former residence.

On October 23, a garbage truck exploded in the area of 10620 SW 129th Court – sending shrapnel everywhere. The debris landed as far as a block away, damaging nearby homes and cars.

The driver hurt his leg as he jumped out of the truck window fearing a second explosion.

The bizarre incident prompted a joint effort from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, FBI, Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department and Fire Marshal's Office to figure out what caused the boom.

Authorities said the investigation led them to the former home of Jonathan Dittemore.

Investigators said inside Dittemore's old bedroom they discovered various explosive powders and components to construct destructive devices.

Dittemore has been charged with possessing a National Firearm Act (NFA) firearm not registered to him in the National Firearm Registration.

If convicted Dittemore faces a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Dittemore's criminal history includes a battery charge and possession of cannabis.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Kobrinski.
