Kelly: Wouldn't Have Been Beef if Ryan Tannehill 'Wasn't Disrespectful'
The Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly joined WQAM Thursday to talk about the Dolphins' coaching changes as well as the incident swirling around Ryan Tannehill from a walkthrough in London last weekend the day before the Jets game.
"The issue was and there's tons of stories here but there wouldn't have been a beef with the defense if Ryan wasn't disrespectful to the players who were getting balls thrown right at them," Kelly said on Hochman, Crowder and Krantz. "From what I'm told, Tannehill has not practiced well for quite a while now and what you've seen in the Buffalo game or the Jets game is no surprise. Both teams dared him to throw big and he fell short. He's had his seventh and ninth worst games of his career and when teams start to see that and start to replicate what they're doing -- Channing knows how that happens -- it's gonna snowball and the question is can he respond to it? Now yeah, he can say whatever he wants about what he did say and what he didn't say and you can say and claim that you didn't say anything about the paychecks but the bottom line to me is you have to apologize to your teammates or to the specific teammates because you were being disrespectful.
"The problem that we have in this society is that, one, we're too obsessed with the quarterback... and so now the quarterback has to apologize 'cause he said some harsh things or now he's claiming he didn't say them. And I don't care what he said or what he didn't say or what he wants to take accountability for. At first you tried to deny that it never happened and then you had to back down and say 'ok well it did happen, but I didn't say this, I said this.' Like nobody would want to fight you if you talked about enjoy your practice squad trophies so people want to fight you now because you said enjoy your practice squad trophies? No, people want to fight you because you were being disrespectful."
