Kaepernick Moving Up Draft Boards
MIAMI (CBS4) - Fans of the Miami Dolphins are clamoring for a quarterback after just one full season under current starter Chad Henne.
While the elite quarterbacks will be gone by the time the Fins come on the clock during the NFL Draft, there are many intriguing possibilities past Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton.
One quarterback flying up draft boards in April is former Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The former Wolfpack QB threw the fastest pass at the NFL combine in February and has plenty of mobility to throw at opposing teams.
Scouts and analysts have found only two areas that concern them with Kaepernick's game. First, he has a slight hesitation in his throw similar to Tim Tebow, though not nearly as pronounced.
The other issue was that Kaepernick played in an offense called the Pistol at Nevada. The Pistol lines the quarterback up in a short shotgun position with a running back behind him. But Kaepernick is quick to shoot down criticism of the Pistol.
"I think the offense I played in, more and more teams are realizing that we still have the same progressions that a lot of teams have," Kaepernick said. "We still check our protections, check our plays the same way other teams do. It's not so much that we're doing different things, it's that we call it something different."
Kaepernick stands 6'4" and weighs in at 220 pounds. He also is the first quarterback to ever have three straight seasons of passing for 2,000 yards and rushing for at least 1,000 yards. He threw for 82 touchdowns and just 24 interceptions during his college career.
He could be the answer to any team that wants to run the "Wildcat" offense next season and could become a player similar to Brad Smith of the New York Jets.
