Juvenile Detention Officer Arrested For Credit Card Fraud
GAINESVILLE (CBSMiami) – A Miami juvenile detention officer is on the wrong side of the law after a traffic stop in Alachua County.
According to the Gainesville Sun, Daniel Maldonado, 28, of North Miami Beach was pulled over Thursday night. When police began investigating Maldonado, they found large amounts of cash, tax refund debit cards, and a ledger containing the personal information of 323 people.
Maldonado was charged with possession of counterfeit credit cards, dealing in the credit cards of others, making false statements to obtain credit cards, and 323 counts of criminal use of ID info, according to the Sun.
Similar thefts of identification and tax fraud have become the crime of choice in South Florida. Even former NFL stars have been accused of ID theft and tax fraud in recent weeks.
Both Florida Senator Bill Nelson and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz have introduced legislation seeking to crack down on the rampant tax fraud and identity theft across the country.
