Judge Claps Back After Nasty Court Appearance
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man who was accused of murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend made an unruly appearance in court, which temporarily cost him his freedom.
Anton Hendricks, 34, appeared before Judge Steven Leifman at his bond hearing Saturday. After a nine month investigation, he was arrested by federal agents on Friday in relation to the murder of his girlfriend at the time, Gena James.
James was fatally shot in the head last October.
At his brief court appearance, Hendricks was said to have screamed that the second-degree murder charges were "bulls—t," according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
"It's not f-----g me," yelled Hendricks. "I'm fighting for my g-----n life."
That is when Judge Leifman decided to hold Hendricks without bond.
Hendricks and James seemed to have a complicated relationship.
The night before James was killed, she told her sister that Hendricks had left her somewhere and that he was going to return to pick her up, mother Sharon Riley told the Herald.
Weeks before the murder, Riley said that her daughter had complained about being scared of the way Hendricks had been acting. He was said to have done things like take away James' phone and play with a gun around her.
James' family was trying to find a way for her to escape and return home around the time of her death.
Now, the family can't do anything but hope and pray for justice.
"My heart has been ripped out of my chest," said Riley. "She had such a future."
