NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBSMiami) -- Vice President Joe Biden believes he would have made a great commander-in-chief -- the best, even.
In an interview that aired Wednesday on ABC News' "Good Morning America," the VP revealed his confidence about becoming president and what ultimately held him back.
"I planned on running. It's an awful thing to say... I think I would have been the best president, but it was the right thing, not just for my family, for me," Biden admitted. "No one should ever seek the presidency unless they're able to devote their whole heart and soul and passion and to just doing that, and Beau was my soul."
Biden's late son Beau Biden, 46, died after a long battle with brain cancer last year.
In October, Biden opted out of the presidential race, saying he felt he was "out of time" to mount a winning campaign. A few months later, he said "every day" he regrets not running for the office.
Though, not being on a campaign trail now allows him to put his effort into fighting cancer.
"This allows me to pour all of my energies into doing something that hopefully, five years from now, if someone is diagnosed with what my Beau was diagnosed with, they live," he said.
Biden also shared his belief that Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nominee.
"And I feel confident she'll be the next president," Biden predicted.
Clinton lost the West Virginia primary on Tuesday but still leads Bernie Sanders in the delegate race.
