Job Swap: The Sweet Life Of A Chocolatier
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Ever wondered how hard it must be to be a real-life Willy Wonka? Just imagine sitting in a room full of chocolate every day at work.
That's what Eli Schachter of Schakolad Chocolate factory in Miami Beach does.
"I have the coolest job ever, making chocolate," said Schachter.
CBS4 This Morning anchor Walter Makaula got the chance to swap jobs with Schachter for a day and make his own chocolate.
Before they got started, Makaula had to put on an apron. He then asked whether it was okay to eat some of the chocolate while working in the factory.
"We tell our employees that if you need a piece of chocolate or you're really hungry and one is staring at you and you really, really want it, go for it," said Schachter.
After washing his hands and slipping on a pair of rubber gloves, Makaula started his day as a chocolatier.
He began with a simple task – filling chocolate molds.
"We grab the chocolate and we bring the chocolate straight, so that it's vertical," said Schachter. "The line is vertical, and then we turn it the opposite direction, so it's also vertical."
As the day progressed, Makaula made ganache, truffles and chocolate covered marshmallows for the store. The only job hazard that came from being a chocolatier is an upset stomach from eating the chocolate you work with all day long, according to Makaula.
