Jets Not Ready For Tebow Time...Yet
NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – New York Jets fans have had enough of quarterback Mark Sanchez and it may finally be Tebow time in the Big Apple.
The Jets were smacked in the mouth by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, 30-9. The score wasn't even that close as the Dolphins dominated the Jets in every phase of the game. The weak offensive performance from the Jets has fans saying enough is enough from Sanchez.
Compounding the problem for Jets head coach Rex Ryan is the presence of Tim Tebow. Last season, Tebow rescued the Broncos and took them to the playoffs. New York fans, who are not patient, are beginning to clamor for the same thing.
But, so far, Tebow has been relegated to being little more than a decoy for the Jets offense. For his part, Ryan isn't giving in to the fans' desire to make the switch to Tebow.
"Offensively, the problems aren't one man," Ryan said, via the New York Daily News. "If it was one man, that would be easy to do. But it's not one person. Sometimes, we're accurate with the football [and] we drop some passes. Sometimes the pass might not have been as accurate as we wanted it to be."
Ryan's point is true to a degree for the Jets. Wide receiver Stephen Hill has dropped multiple key passes over the last few weeks and the offensive line has not given Sanchez a lot of time to set his feet and throw the football.
Sanchez was 28-54 for 283 yards, one touchdown and one interception this season. But, in October, Sanchez is completing just 56 percent of his passes and has thrown 5 touchdowns to four interceptions for a quarterback rating of 75.7.
Sacnhez's teammate Chaz Schilens told CBS New York that the fans chanting for Tebow was just "b.s."
"Mark's the quarterback," Schilens said. "I think the fans are out of place."
Tight end Dustin Keller defended Sanchez as well.
"I feel like fans should have the starting quarterback's back until they do officially make some type of change," Keller said. "If you're a fan, you should be cheering for the starting quarterback. People weren't standing behind Mark. He's going to get this thing turned around. He knows that we, his teammates, have his back. Hell, we believe in him and we will get this turned around."
