Jets Coach Still Confident In Team
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins are in desperation mode as they head to New York on Monday to take on the hated New York Jets.
The Dolphins are 0-4, have lost their starting quarterback, and are currently leading the race to "Suck for Luck." But the Jets aren't exactly burning up the NFL either.
The Jets defense is a shell of its former self and was humiliated by the New England Patriots most recently. It's a point not lost on Jets head coach Rex Ryan.
"We dared New England to run on us and they did, so I don't know if I want to dare anybody to do anything now," Ryan said Thursday.
Ryan's swagger has kept the Jets relevant and inspired his team to fight. Even with a losing record, Ryan won't back down on his brash opinion of his team. He was asked about the Super Bowl guarantee he made Thursday.
"I can guarantee that we're going to chase it; that's for sure," Ryan said. "Do I think we'll win it? Absolutely."
Ryan's Jets have lost three in a row and it's something that he's not accustomed to and not ready to continue.
"Everything stinks when you lose. The food tastes terrible, beer's warm, everything. It's rotten, when you lose it's absolutely rotten," Ryan said. "But there's one way to fix it and that's to win, and when you win everything is great."
Ryan was asked by the media if it would be embarrassing to lose to the winless Miami Dolphins who are struggling to even put together a game-plan that will work for the roster the team currently deploys.
"The years I've been here, we have not beaten Miami at home," Ryan said. "Don't think for a second that we don't recognize the fact that that's a good team right there."
The last point is one that most Miami Dolphins fans would disagree with right now. But Ryan recognized that the Fins are coming off a bye week they desperately needed and have had extra time to watch film and prepare.
"I think it definitely helps," Ryan said. "Especially because our defense isn't really traditional, and I think having another week would really help teams, but again, hopefully it doesn't help Miami this week."
Ryan called the Dolphins a "talented group" that has moved the ball well but "struggled a little on third down and in the red zone."
As for the Jets, Ryan emphasized that his team's ability to run the ball and stop the run are not up to his standards and that getting both of those elements back in line will help the team become an AFC East contender again.
