Jeb Bush Endorses Republican Candidate In District 13 Special Election
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A day after the first debate in the special election for District 13's Congressional seat, Republican candidate David Jolly is calling on a Republican with a familiar name to further boost his campaign.
Jeb Bush appears in a new TV ad to try to help Jolly fill the seat of the late Bill Young. The new ad is funded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and started airing Tuesday in the 13th District.
Bush says in the ad that Jolly knows how to "get things done" in a dysfunctional Washington. Jolly is locked in a tight race with Democrat Alex Sink in the swing-voting district.
As the first major match-up in advance of this year's midterm elections, the contest is shaping up to be the proving ground for political arguments Republicans and Democrats hope will resonate with moderate voters.
Republicans are banking on running the campaign against anything and everything related to President Barack Obama while Democrats are gearing up to run against what they perceive as a Do-Nothing House of Representatives.
The special election is scheduled for March 11.
