DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry played a huge role in the team's Week 1 win over the Washington Redskins.
His 69-yard punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter gave the Dolphins a 17-10 lead, which ended up being the final score.
Landry's heroics have been recognized by the National Football League.
On Wednesday the league announced that Landry has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season.
In addition to his impressive play on special teams, Landry also tied a career high with eight receptions for 53 yards.
The punt return touchdown was the first by a Dolphins player since a 2012 Week 1 game at Houston when Marcus Thigpen took a kick 72 yards.
Landry became the third player in Dolphins team history to return a kick for a touchdown on opening day, joining Thigpen and Tom Vigorito, who did it against the New York Jets in 1982.
