Jameis Winston Hasn't Been Interviewed By Police
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston remains under investigation by Tallahassee Police for an alleged sexual battery that happened almost one year ago.
Winston has not been charged with any crime, but the investigation remains open. Winston's attorney, Tim Jansen, said that it was his understanding that the case had been closed. Jansen said that Winston has been cooperating with police and that they are hoping for a quick resolution.
Jansen said that he's shocked the case was brought back to the forefront as to his knowledge no new evidence has been collected by police. He said police are trying to interview witnesses his office gave police, but that Winston has not been interviewed by police about the incident.
The revelation of the incident comes at a potentially devastating point for Winston. He's in the middle of leading the Seminoles to a possible berth in the National Championship game and is also the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
FSU said Winston's status on the team has not changed. According to school policy, only after a player is charged with a felony will the player be automatically suspended from any athletic activity.
Winston has completed 69.2 percent of his passes this season for 2,661 yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions this season.
