Jake Long Sidelined During Training Camp

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins' most talented offensive player remains on the sidelines as the team begins its first full week of training camp.

Left tackle Jake Long has been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Long is still recovering from shoulder surgery he had in the offseason. He's rehabbing the injury on the field while his teammates going through drills.

Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said that he's not disappointed Long isn't ready to go now and that he knows when he'll be ready to be put back on the field.

"As I said the other day, he is going to return when I think he is ready to return," Sparano said. "I am not going to push it. I know exactly what the guy needs to have himself ready to play and I am not going to push it. We are going to take our time with Jake and have him ready to go."

Sparano said he wasn't worried about Long missing extended time in the preseason and that, "the biggest thing right now is down the road here in the New England Patriots."

Once Long is off the PUP list, he'll retake his position at left tackle. He will be flanked by Richie Incognito or another guard, at center will be Mike Pouncey, at right guard will either be Incognito or another guard, and Vernon Carey will hold down the right tackle position.
