Jaguars Sold To Illinois Businessman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – On the same day that the Jacksonville Jaguars announced they were firing head coach Jack Del Rio; Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver let team employees know that he was selling the franchise.

According to SI.com's Peter King, the team is being sold to Shahid Khan. If the name sounds familiar to NFL fans, it's because Khan tried unsuccessfully to buy the St. Louis Rams after longtime owner Georgia Frontiere died.

Khan made his money as an auto-parts mogul. He's from Southern Illinois.

According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, the sale to Khan is contingent on the Jags remaining in Jacksonville.

And if all of that wasn't enough, NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora reported that Jacksonville has also extended the contract of current general manager Gene Smith.
