Jags Sign Tight End; QB Returning To Practice
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – The Jacksonville Jaguars have had an eventful 24 hours. Thursday, the team saw starting quarterback David Garrard carried off the field on a cart, but Friday they had good news on him and from one of their prized players.
Jags tight end Marcedes Lewis signed a five-year contract worth nearly $35 million with the team. Seventeen-million-dollars of the contract was guaranteed to Lewis.
Lewis had been slapped with the franchise tag after he caught 58 passes for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2010. Lewis, who stands 6'6" and weighs 262 pounds, had previously signed his franchise tag tender, but his new contract removes the tag from him.
As for Garrard, the Jaguars said Friday that his back "got a little tight" and that he will not need X-rays. Garrard should be ready to participate in Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage.
