Jags GM Says No To Tebow Joining Team
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell sticks to his word, quarterback Tim Tebow won't be playing for his hometown team anytime soon.
Caldwell spoke at an introductory news conference Thursday and said, "I can't imagine a scenario in which he'll be a Jacksonville Jaguar, even if he is released."
Last month, a source told ESPN it was "a virtual certainty" that Tebow would be playing in Jacksonville in 2013. However, that was before owner Shad Khan fired Gene Smith and hired Caldwell.
Tebow spent the past season with the New York Jets, but never played a significant amount of time in any game and was passed on the depth chart by Greg McElroy.
Caldwell had an eventful Thursday. Besides the news on Tebow, Caldwell also fired head coach Mike Mularkey earlier in the day. Mularkey's future was tentative at best when Caldwell was hired after leading the team to 2-14 record.
