Jags Committed To Blaine Gabbert
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to search for a head coach with an offensive mind in hopes of developing the player they see as the future, quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
The former Missouri Tiger was the tenth overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, but failed to live up to the lofty expectations in his rookie year.
In fact, Gabbert's play was downright dismal in the past season.
Gabbert started 14 games for the Jaguars and completed just 51 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
But, Gabbert has the full support of the one person he needs in the Jacksonville Jaguars organization, owner Shahid Khan.
"I think he [Gabbert] is going to be a great quarterback," Khan said on WOKV in Jacksonville. "I think he is our franchise quarterback. I think he needs development. We want to develop him. We want to give him tools. A dedicated coach. And I think he's going to be great."
As for the future coach, the Jaguars have several coaches in their sights, but according to Albert Greer of NFL.com said the Jags are likely targeting Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, son of former NFL coach Jon Gruden.
Jay built an offense custom-built for rookie Andy Dalton and rode them to a playoff berth this year.
The Jaguars will have to hold off on hiring Gruden until after the Bengals are eliminated from the playoffs.
