Jacory Gets Starting Nod Against Irish
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) - When the University of Miami Hurricanes line up against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sun Bowl on Friday, they'll have a familiar face under center.
Canes interim coach Jeff Stoutland announced Thursday that junior Jacory Harris will be the Hurricanes quarterback against the Irish.
"He puts us in the best position to win the football game,'' Stoutland said of Harris.
Stoutland said freshman Stephen Morris, who had started the Canes' last four games, suffered a sprained ankle during practice on Tuesday. Coach Stoutland did say the Morris would be available if the Canes need him.
For Harris, it could be a comeback he desperately needs to get his confidence back. The junior has gone through an up-and-down season again this year and has not looked anything like the hyped quarterback he was coming into the season.
For the season, Harris has thrown for 1,756 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. But since the Florida State debacle, Harris has thrown for 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in the games he has played, completed 53 percent of his passes in the same span, and only completed more than 20 passes in a game once since the FSU game.
