iPad Sale Turns Out The Apple Devotees
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - Apple's latest iPad drew the customary lines of die-hard fans looking to be first and entrepreneurs looking to make a quick profit.
Many buyers lined up for hours, and in some cases overnight, as the tablet computer went on sale in the U.S. and nine other countries. They did so even though Apple started accepting online orders a week ago.
"So it's worth staying out all night for?" CBS4's Kara Kostanich asked 13-year-old Sierra Callwood of Pembroke Pines. "Seven and a half hours now," said Callwood.
The new model comes with a faster processor, a much sharper screen and an improved camera, though the changes aren't as big as the upgrade from the original model to the iPad 2.
As with the previous models, prices start at $499 in the U.S.
On Miami Beach, the line included people from far and wide including Russia, Norway, and even Germany.
"We came from Germany to get it first because in Germany, it's impossible to get," said Chris Rosback. "I'm glad to get it now; to be one of the first people in the world to have it now."
Of all the features that caught the attention of the first purchasers was the "retina display," which is supposedly so sharp that the eye can't find the individual pixels.
"I'm fascinated with the retina display," said Sierra.
Whatever it is that keeps people coming back for more, Apple is going to try to continue to do it. Powered by the iPad and the new line of iPhones; Apple's stock cracked an all-time high of $600 a share this week and is now the most valuable company in the world.
