Investigators Uncover Chop Shop In Deerfield Beach
DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – A door panel here, a front grill there, one after another, BSO deputies pulled out cars and car parts from a garage in Deerfield Beach.
Investigators with the Broward Sheriff's Office said they uncovered a chop shop in Deerfield Beach on Thursday. Inside, they've been able to identify as least six vehicles which had been reported stolen, including Seema Kahn's car.
"I saw my car," Kahn said as she watched the news. "The guys came in the driveway and broke the glass in the back (of the car) and took the car."
Surveillance video from her apartment complex shows the car leaving, racing through the front gate.
Just a week later, most of the front end of her car was missing. It, like most of the cars there, were stripped down for parts in a multi-bay warehouse at 116 SE 3rd Street.
"A lot of the cars, the whole front end has already been taken apart," said BSO Spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion. "We have a lot of doors that have been taken off of the cars. It definitely seems like they were in the process of chopping up all the cars and selling off the parts. "
The sheriff's office said one man was taken into custody. He's been identified as 24-year old Delano Henry. He was arrested when deputies noticed him hanging around the crime scene.
"One of them realized that there was a person that was circling the street," said Concepcion. "As you can all tell, we're in a dead end street so obviously that caught their attention right away. They made contact with that person and determined he was driving a stolen vehicle as well."
Henry is no stranger to the law. His record includes grand theft auto and operating a chop shop. He was on probation at the time of his arrest.
