Investigation Leads To New Site In Search For Missing Mom, Daughter

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Investigators have turned their attention to a new location in the case of a missing Doral woman and her daughter.
Four search teams with the Miami-Dade Police Dept. met up Saturday morning, June 25th, at the Publix parking lot at 13760 S.W. 8th Street.
Their focus is on the north side of a large wooded area from S.W. 8th Street and S.W. 137th Avenue to S.W. 157th Avenue.
They're looking for 43-year-old Liliana Moreno and her 8-year-old daughter Daniela, last heard from on May 30th, according to Moreno's sister, who alerted authorities to their disappearance on June 1st.
The investigation has led police to several locations in Miami-Dade County during the month of June, including in a canal off Okeechobee Road and 138th Street and a warehouse district in Medley where Daniela's father, Gustavo Castano, worked.
On June 3rd, officers were called out to Hialeah Gardens, behind a Home Depot at 13895 West Okeechobee Road, where Castano was reportedly cutting himself with a boxcutter.
During that confrontation, Castano lost an eye when he held up a box to defend himself from an officer's Taser that deflected into his face, authorities said.
Just days earlier, Castano told police he had dropped Moreno and their daughter near the canal on Okeechobee Road. That would turn out to be the last time anyone claimed to have seen them alive.
Next, a tip led police to a remote lake near N.W. 127th Avenue and 25th Street.
However, these searches have seemingly all turned up very little additional information into the mother and daughter's disappearance.
Moreno's family from Colombia have continued their own efforts, along with volunteers from the Missing Children Global Network, passing out flyers to shoppers at a Wal-Mart in Hialeah Gardens in the hopes that someone may have information that could help in the search.
Saturday's efforts included all-terrain vehicles and K-9 units.
Officials have not revealed any details about what clues have made them focus on this new search area.
They do suspect foul play and said they'll search another site on Sunday.
