Interim Doral City Manager Quits, Carollo Appointed To Post
DORAL (CBSMiami) – The city of Doral was left without a city manager briefly after interim city manager Merrett Stierheim abruptly resigned Wednesday afternoon.
Doral Mayor Luigi Boria appointed former Miami mayor Joe Carollo as new permanent city manager Wednesday night at a Doral City Council meeting. The selection of the new city manager was part of the reason Stierheim resigned his position.
"I would be less than honest not to express my disappoint with your reluctance to share with me who your candidates is and that you do not want a period of transition between me and the next City Manager," Stierheim wrote in his resignation letter to Mayor Boria.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, Stierheim is the third high-ranking Doral official to leave the city in the last month.
Stierheim said that he found it "personally awkward" to attend Wednesday's city council meeting when the new city manager was to be named.
According to Stierheim's letter, he was supposed to "assist the Mayor of the City in identifying candidates for the position of City Manager." However, Stierheim said he "played no role whatsoever in your selection process, nor was I aware of it."
Stierheim said one of his main concerns going forward was the "possibility of losing professional staff, primarily because of political interference within the administration." Stierheim continued saying, "I tried to avoid creating a firewall between Council Members and the Administration; however, my success may well find that necessary because of a pattern of continued interference by one Council Member."
