Instagram Ends Photo Sharing With Twitter
MIAMI (CBSMiami/CBS) – Twitter users may have noticed a change when it comes to their Instagram photos because the pictures can no longer be viewed on Twitter. Instead, a link will now redirect users to Instagram's website.
Twitter notified users Sunday of the changes on its status blog.
"Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries," Twitter said in a statement on its website.
"While tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible, you can no longer view the photos on Twitter, as was previously the case."
Since Facebook bought Instagram in April, it's been apparent that Facebook and Twitter, which rank one-two in popularity among social-networking users, are distancing themselves from each other.
Last week, at the LeWeb conference in Paris, Instagram's chief executive officer Kevin Systrom said that the relationship between the photo-sharing app and Twitter is changing, but not terminating. However, it appears, the change is more significant than previously thought.
At the time, Instagram dropped support for Twitter cards -- a feature that lets users see media displayed with a tweet. While Instagram photos could still be seen on Twitter last week, they appeared cropped.
Systrom continued to say he was hoping to push users to Instagram's newly launched online profiles.
"Really it's about where do you go to consume that image, to interact with that image. We want that to be on Instagram," Systrom said at the LeWeb conference. "What we realized over time is we really needed to have an awesome Web presence."
The growing divide between the two companies come amid rumors that Twitter is planning to launch photo filters on its official app by the end of the year.
