MIAMI--The tech industry has seen job cuts recently, but there is still a high demand for people who work in software and data. The employment site Indeed.com is out with its list of best jobs and ranks full stack developer as the number position. Never heard of it? A full stack developer is someone who can work on all aspects of a website or application. It's what Sarah Curtis does for a living; she chose this career path after taking a computer science course in college.
"You can build something that will be used potentially by millions of people all over the world. So, solving problems at that scale is really challenging, but also really interesting," Curtis says.
Indeed.com ranks jobs based on salary, availability and flexibility. Full stack developer has an average mean salary of $129,637 and 51% of the jobs can be done remotely or on a hybrid schedule. At number two is data engineer which pays a mean salary of $135,260 with 44% of jobs offering remote options. Cloud engineer is number three. It also pays six figures and has a large percentage of remote and hybrid positions. In fact, most of the jobs in the top 10 are computer related.
"So, what this continues to show is that virtually every company today is a technology company. Every single company today does have some online presence to power their business," says Scott Dobroski who is the Career Trends Expert at Indeed. "I found it very interesting that you don't see a job like physician or lawyer on this year's list. Those used to be two jobs years ago that a lot of people would go for."
Dobroski believes the job trend toward tech will only continue as companies increasingly rely on technology to conduct business.
