Immigrants March For Reform In Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A march will take place Saturday with Miami's newest immigrants to help put the spotlight on the need for immigration reform.
The participants will walk through the city's oldest Cuban enclave of Little Havana at 1 p.m.
The afternoon march is one of nearly half a dozen around the state and more than 160 around the country.
Other rally sites include Lake Worth, Lakeland, Tampa and Orlando.
Earlier this week, Florida made news when South Florida freshman U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia was among the main sponsors of a new immigration bill in the House.
The Democrat-backed bill combined much of the Senate's immigration proposal with a streamlined border security section that Republicans in the House previously supported.
GOP leaders are unlikely to bring that bill to the floor, though.
