MIAMI (CBS4) - If you're looking to get rid of all those holiday pounds you've packed on, there's a new diet trend that's not hot, but cold. It's called the Ice Cube Diet, but these are no ordinary ice cubes. The company selling them claims the special cubes contain the appetite suppressant Hoodia.
"I have tried every diet off of every magazine cover. I have gone to meetings; I've had food sent to my house. I am now down 22 extra pounds from doing this ice cube diet," said Alicia Puma. "I am definitely a devoted customer. It has been a godsend for me."
Alicia Puma is hooked. She eats an ice cube a day to keep the pounds away. After this mother and wife tried every diet trick she could find, it was the Ice Cube Diet that worked for her.
"My cravings were actually diminished the first day. Then the next day I took it again and it got even better. And by the third day my energy picked up. And within two weeks I dropped 10 pounds," exclaimed Puma.
Puma says over a two month period, she lost over 20 pounds.
"It doesn't stop you from eating. It just stops you from overeating," explained Puma.
The package says lose weight naturally. The company touts one cube a day helps curb your appetite.
"People say you must be losing weight if you're only eating ice cubes. But I tell them it's not just ice cubes it's made with fresh raw Hoodia," said Puma.
Hoodia is a cactus like plant which contains an active ingredient known as P-57 which is a natural appetite suppressant.
Each ice cube costs around $1.35 a day and are sold through the internet already frozen in dry ice.
Puma says it's a small price to pay for a sleeker, slimmer version of you.
"I definitely feel sexier," said Puma.
There is a lack of scientific information about Hoodia's safety. Always remember, before you take any type of diet product, you should always consult your doctor.
