Hyde: Dwyane Wade's Contract a Question of Arison Paying Luxury Tax

Interviews-wqam

NBA Free Agency is nearing as we inch closer to July 1, and the Sun Sentinel's Dave Hyde thinks it's a "misunderstanding" that giving Dwyane Wade a huge deal next season would prevent the Heat from being competitive.

"They can give Dwyane Wade -- and I did this with my capologist Ira Winderman so it isn't just me pretending I know the salary cap -- $23.5 million this year, the maximum," Hyde said on the Kup and Crowder Show. "They're gonna be over the cap. So it isn't a question of forfeiting the ability to win next year, the only question then is does Micky Arison want to pay the luxury tax? And it will be a steep luxury tax as of now.

"My point is they can pay him a big lump sum next year when all you're really talking about is Micky Arison's money. Now that's easy for me to say and for anybody to throw out there -- yeah go spend your money. But I will say this, the Heat have always had two almost contradictory philosophies... Pat Riley thinks big, bigger than anybody in basketball and that's been their modus operandi -- why they win titles. At the same time they ask players to take sacrifices with dollars and players do."

If Wade is willing to take a monster one-year deal next year to smooth things over and pave the way for a smaller, more cap friendly deal next summer, will Micky be willing to pay the tax to ensure Wade remains a Heat Lifer?
