Husband Shoots At "Intruder", Turns Out To Be Wife
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A South Florida woman remains hospitalized after being accidentally shot by her husband.
Neleida Vasquez told CBS 4 News that she was feeling better. But she didn't want to be interviewed about the alleged accident that put her in the hospital.
Miami-Dade Police said Vasquez had gone out with her two children to run some errands and returned home earlier than expected because she had forgot something.
Her husband Larry Valadez was at their Southwest Miami Dade home at SW 146th Terrace and 158th Court.
"He heard some noises coming from the first floor," said Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, of Miami-Dade Police. "As he walked downstairs, he armed himself with a firearm and at that point is when he turned the corner, met face to face and pulled the trigger and shot."
The children were unharmed because they were outside waiting in the car.
Neigbhor said the couple had been on edge because of several incidents in the community.
"There was a shooting a few months ago and about a month before that somebody had broke into their house during the day," said neighbor and friend Myles Feder.
Miami-Dade Police confirm a murder at the home behind Vasquez's. Neighbor also said the home on the other side of the couples' had been recently raided by SWAT.
"I know the family, they're very nice people," said Sandra Massuit, a neighbor. "With the situation that's been going on, I can understand why he's armed."
After talking to neighbors and reviewing the 911 tape, police said they believe this was an accident and will not be charging anyone in this case.
