CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – The Miami Hurricanes hit the practice field on Tuesday as they began to focus on this weekend's matchup with the Nebraska Cornhuskers under cloudy skies and thick humid air.
Big Red comes to Miami for its first regular season game in South Florida since 1951.
Nebraska has played in the Orange Bowl 17 times, with two of those happening at Sun Life Stadium.
Nebraska features a vintage Huskers offensive line averaging 300 pounds across the board, intent on running the ball with Terrell Newby who last week ran for 198 yards.
"Newby is just as shifty as Ameer Abdullah was last season, maybe even more and runs with power," said Hurricanes head coach Al Golden. "The good news is we have been tackling Joe Yearby and Mark Walton all summer in camp and they're similar to Newby."
Last week the Nebraska offense accounted for 561 yards of total offense.
In last season's game between the Canes and Huskers, Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya threw for 359 yards, but Miami ran for only 76.
Kaaya may or may not have wide receivers Stacy Coley and Braxton Berrios available.
Coley went through today's practice while Berrios worked on the side.
Nebraska's defense, nicknamed the Blackshirts, held South Alabama to 19 yards rushing last week.
They're led by an experienced physical defensive line.
"They're very strong, very stout, we will have to do a great job of blocking them and running through some arm tackles," said Golden. "Their linebackers are big; we have to make them operate in space as much as we can."
Deon Bush was awarded his 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honor after practice in front of the team.
Miami and Nebraska have combined for 10 National Championships, including 8 since 1983.
This will be the 12th meeting between the schools with Nebraska holding a 6-5 edge.
