Hurricane Sandy Forces Flight Cancellations
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hurricane Sandy, barreling toward the northeast Monday, has caused thousands of flight delays and cancellations around the country including in South Florida.
Miami International Airport is reporting 54 canceled arrival flights and 63 canceled departure flights as of Monday evening.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, more than two dozen arrivals and more than three dozen departures were showing as cancelled on flight boards Monday.

Airport officials are urging travelers to check with their carrier before coming to the airport.
Not everyone heeded that warning on Monday.
"We saw it coming up the East Coast and we thought maybe we'd have a chance to beat it and be in to Boston before it got there. We lost the race," said traveler Rich Wood. "They're saying Wednesday at the earliest."
Rich and Tricia Wood stepped off a cruise ship and into the airport. After checking in all their luggage they were told their flight was cancelled.
"Now we found out are luggage is in Boston and we're not," said Tricia who didn't seem to mind too much. "No, we're feeling upbeat."
Their flight is one of more than 7,000 cancelled across the country.
The Corderos don't mind that they won't make it home to Philadelphia just yet.
"I have no problem being stuck in Miami, it's a beautiful city," said Donna Cordero.
The airports will provide travelers with a list of hotels if they have to stay in the area longer than they expected.
These affected flights are to and from the following cities: Washington, D.C., New York City (three airports), White Plains, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, Newark, Atlantic City, and Providence.
International travelers are also affected. All flights from Paris to Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington — a total of 14 — were canceled. Air France has canceled four into JFK and two departures.
Frankfurt airport canceled 12 flights, with German carrier Lufthansa scrapping three to the Northeast and one out of Newark. British Airways had to cancel all its flights to and from New York, Newark, Baltimore, Washington DC, Boston and Philadelphia — a total of 20.
Eight flights out of Tokyo's Narita International Airport to New York, Newark and Washington were canceled Monday.
Hong Kong's Cathay canceled its two daily flights to New York for Monday and Tuesday and Air India said its daily flights to Newark and JFK had halted since Sunday.
South Korean flag carrier Korean Air delayed a flight scheduled to leave Incheon International Airport for JFK on Monday by 22 hours. Asiana Airlines delayed its JFK flight from Seoul by 26 hours.
