Leslie Sets Sites On Newfoundland
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – After lashing Bermuda with heavy rain and gusty wind, Tropical Storm Leslie is slowly making its way toward Newfoundland.
At 5 p.m. Sunday the center of the storm was about 175 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. It had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph with higher gusts.
Leslie was moving north at 14 mph.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 195 miles from the center of circulation.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Bermuda. People in Newfoundland are being urged to monitor its progress.
On the forecast track, the center of Leslie will continue to move north. A turn to the northwest and a significant increase in forward speed is expected over the next day or so. Leslie is expected to be near Newfoundland on Tuesday.
For the next several days, swells generated by Leslie could affect the U.S. East Coast from central Florida northward, the Canadian Maritimes, the northern Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.
