Hurricane Conference Gets Underway In Ft. Lauderdale
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Just about two and a half weeks before the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season gets underway, meteorologists, emergency managers and government officials are meeting in Ft. Lauderdale at the annual Governor's Hurricane Conference.
More than 1,740 people from 59 Florida counties, 28 states and three foreign countries are expected to attend.
Gov. Rick Scott, the director of the National Hurricane Center and Florida's new emergency management chief are scheduled to speak at the conference Wednesday.
The focus of the week long series of events at the Broward County Convention Center is to share information and ideas on how to be better prepared for, respond to and recover from the effects of man-made and natural disasters.
The six-month Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1st.
