Hurricane Humberto Moving North In Atlantic
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Hurricane Humberto, the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, made an expected turn to the north over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean and could possibly strengthen in the next 48 hours.
At 5 p.m., the center of the system was about 360 miles west north west of the Cape Verde Islands. Humberto's maximum sustained winds have increased from 80 mph, to 85 mph as it continued its movement to the north at 12 mph.
The National Hurricane Center forecasts Humberto to continue moving north for the next day or two. Also, the NHC believes the storm could strengthen over the next 48 hours, but will likely weaken after that.
The storm is expected to make a gradual turn to the northwest on Friday.
Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend up to 115 miles.
