Homeless Man Dies After Police-Involved Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Miami-Dade Police responded to a police-involved shooting near the intersection of NE 15th Avenue and 169th Street in northeast Miami-Dade County Friday afternoon.

The initial call came in around 1:30 Friday afternoon. Miami-Dade Police closed NE 15th Avenue from 169th to 167th Street closed due to the shooting.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the man who was killed was approached by police and produced a knife and charged the officer. It was at that point the officer shot and killed the 34-year-old man.

Witnesses and neighbors at the scene told CBS4's Silva Harapetian that the victim is a homeless man whose grandmother lives in the area. Neighbors told CBS4 the man was shot by the same officer who arrested him last week for loitering.

Neighbors at the scene also told CBS4 that the man is known for walking from Florida to Georgia.
