Holocaust Memorial Approved For Capitol

MIAMI (CBSMiami/NSF) -- Florida lawmakers gave the final approval to a plan that would create a Holocaust memorial on the Capitol grounds.
House members voted 116-1 to approve the bill (SB 716), which was unanimously supported by the Senate last month.
Only Rep. John Tobia, R-Melbourne Beach, voted against the bill, which is now ready to go to Gov. Rick Scott.
The bill would direct the state Department of Management Services to set aside space in the Capitol Complex for the memorial. The department also will build the memorial after receiving recommendations from the Florida Historical Commission.
House sponsor Jared Moskowitz, D-Coral Springs, said such memorials are important because soon there will not be witnesses to the Holocaust who can testify about what happened.
"Without witnesses, people will try to change history," Moskowitz said.
