HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A Hollywood man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of kidnapping and sex trafficking.
Shaun Eric McKinley, 35, was found guilty on September 18.
According to court documents and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, McKinley forced a 28-year-old woman into prostitution after meeting her in December 2013.
Officials said the victim attempted to leave McKinley a few months later, but he found her and dragged her for several blocks by her hair to his home. That's where documents revealed he forced her to strip naked, covered her head with a pillow case, hog-tied her with extension cords and beat her with a board.
The victim successfully escaped McKinley in April, but was lured back to him in a ruse where he physically assaulted her and threw her into a car.
The kidnapping was caught on surveillance video at a nearby business.
Shortly after the kidnapping, the victim was able to escape when McKinley stopped at a convenience store.
After flagging down a passing ambulance, the victim was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where she was treated for her injuries, which included a fractured front tooth, a lip laceration and head contusions.
Court documents stated that McKinley showed up at the hospital looking for her, dressed in blood-covered clothes.
A concerned nurse and a Hollywood officer prevented McKinley from getting to the victim.
