Hollywood Daughter Gives Mother Gift Of Life
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- A daughter is giving her mother the gift of life for Mother's day.
Michele Giordano, 54, will be getting a kidney from her 22-year old daughter not only the same month as mother's day, but also the same month as her 55th birthday, according to our news partners the Miami Herald.
"I feel incredibly blessed and happy to have someone who loves me so much. My angel daughter has given me a chance to get back my health, and most importantly the gift of life," said Giordano.
The Hollywood resident has a husband and four children but she told the paper, the one thing she needed threatened it all. Giordano's life has been reduced to the small amount of energy she has left. The threat of dialysis or death looms.
"I had called my kids together at the beginning and said I didn't think I could accept a kidney from any of them. They were my babies, and I gave them life. I should be the one to give my life to them," Giordano said.
But her daughter thought differently.
"My mom always puts everyone else first, so this is my chance to do something for her," Jenna said.
Dr. Michael Goldstein, M.D. of Jackson Memorial Hospitals Miami Transplant Institute will be the lead surgeon performing the procedure in May.
