Hollywood Canal Water Deemed Safe After Sewage Spill
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - Health officials in Hollywood have declared a canal safe several weeks after a main break polluted the water with raw sewage.
Hollywood spokesperson Raelin Storey told CBS4 News that the C-1o canal has repeatedly passed water quality tests showing fecal coliform bacteria levels well below the state recreational standard. The level of dissolved oxygen has also returned to normal levels.
Because of the test results, the city and county has lifted the "no swimming, fishing, or wading advisory".
The break happened on November 15th near Taft Street between Park Road and Interstate 95 , covering the streets with raw sewage and displacing residents due to it's rancid stench.
The canal collected the run-off from the raw sewage, forcing the city to issue the advisory due to high levels of bacteria.
